STILL PHOTOGRAPH FROM "BATTLE ROYALE"
The first work you see when you come in the door, this still photograph of Katya Bankowski and Michele Lamy, provides a perfect entryway into the world of this show. Here is an excerpt from the press release:
“On Guard was inspired by Life Doesn’t Frighten Me, a book that combines a poem by renowned author and activist Maya Angelou with illustrations by artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Angelou’s simple and empowering sentences, accompanied by the visually strong images of Basquiat’s works, deliver the overall message that people should go on in their lives without fears. On Guard is meant to be a reminder of the courage within all of us and to empower viewers to fight for their rights on both personal and collective levels.”
The exhibition features works from Katya Bankowsky with Michele Lamy, Katya Bankowsky with Maya Angelou, Zoë Buckman, Megan Euker, Kat Kay, Cheryl Pope, and Marcela Torres and continues through December 2nd, 2018.

WILLIAM ECKHARDT KOHLER “POLLET’S LOVE”
William Eckhardt Kohler’s saturated and harmonious landscapes are comprised of relaxed, brushy paint and remarkable color. Resting his composition on the edges of the frame, Kohler lends an air of romanticism to the hollowed out building in the foreground. With perspective that nods to Cubism and colors reminiscent of the Fauves, William Eckhardt Kohler produces luminescent work well aware of its predecessors, yet altogether new.
